On the occasion of Bharat Ratna Pandit Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth anniversary, observed as Good Governance Day, Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh participated in a district-level pediatric heart disease screening camp organised at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Memorial Medical College and affiliated hospital in Rajnandgaon. The camp was conducted with the support of Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Nava Raipur.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Raman Singh paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and highlighted the importance of early detection of congenital heart diseases among children. He said expert doctors from Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital carried out heart screenings of young children using ECG and echocardiography. Based on the screening, around 45 children were identified as requiring surgery.

Dr. Singh said that early diagnosis has made it possible to ensure 100 per cent effective treatment, preventing long-term developmental complications. He assured parents that the identified children would receive free treatment and continuous medical follow-up. “Once surgery is completed, these children will be able to lead healthy and normal lives,” he said.
Highlighting the contribution of Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Dr. Singh said the institution has provided free treatment to more than 21,000 patients from 22 countries. Established in Nava Raipur with land allocated in 2012, the hospital was completed within a year and has since become a centre of excellence for pediatric cardiac care. He noted that complex surgeries, usually performed in metropolitan cities like Delhi and Chennai, are being successfully carried out in Raipur, attracting patients from across India and abroad.

Dr. Singh also spoke about the launch of the “Project Niramaya Navya” initiative, under which adolescent girls will receive health advice and counselling through a dedicated website. The platform will provide expert guidance on issues such as menstruation, hormonal changes, anaemia and other health concerns, enabling girls to seek advice without hesitation.
He congratulated the medical team of Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, including senior cardiologist Dr. Yogesh Sathe, Medical College Dean Dr. Pankaj Luka and their entire team, for their dedicated service. He called upon voluntary organisations to work with commitment to bring positive change in public health through modern research and advanced medical technology.
Member of Parliament Santosh Pandey, who was also present, said Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth anniversary is celebrated as Good Governance Day in recognition of his lifelong service to the nation. He described Vajpayee as not only a statesman but also a poet, writer, editor and powerful orator. Pandey recalled key achievements during Vajpayee’s tenure, including the Pokhran nuclear tests and the expansion of rural connectivity through the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

He said the establishment of institutions like Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital and AIIMS in Chhattisgarh has significantly strengthened healthcare infrastructure in the state. Emphasising the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047”, he said government schemes would be successful only when they reach the last person in society.
According to officials, a total of 126 children were registered by the Chiranjeevi (Chirayu) team during the camp, and all underwent free ECG and echocardiography tests. Surgeries for eligible children will be conducted under the Chirayu programme at Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Nava Raipur.
Several public representatives, senior administrative and police officials, doctors and a large number of citizens were present on the occasion.
