Children with Type-1 diabetes can live stress-free lives with family and social support, says Collector Jitendra Yadav

In a significant initiative towards improving care and awareness, a state-level patient support group meeting for children suffering from Type-1 Diabetes and their families was organised for the first time in Rajnandgaon. The meeting was held at the District Panchayat Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Collector Mr. Jitendra Yadav.

Addressing the gathering, the Collector described Type-1 Diabetes as a challenge that can be managed effectively. He said that with proper medical care, family support, and societal cooperation, affected children can live confident and stress-free lives. Emphasising scientific progress, he noted that continuous research and medical innovations have helped dispel myths surrounding the disease and enabled patients to lead near-normal lives. He advised children suffering from Type-1 Diabetes (juvenile diabetes) to remain cautious about their health while focusing on their education.
Chief Executive Officer, District Panchayat, Ms. Suruchi Singh, stated that children with Type-1 Diabetes can lead normal lives through correct treatment and disease management. She stressed the importance of proper care and regular counselling for both children and their families.

The meeting was organised with the objective of providing families with accurate medical information, emotional support, treatment management guidance, and daily care strategies. Medical experts elaborated on the causes, symptoms, insulin management, dietary planning, school-time care, and essential precautions required in daily life for children affected by the condition.
Families shared their personal experiences, challenges, and success stories, which boosted confidence among other participants and fostered mutual learning. Interactive dialogue sessions between children, parents, and experts were also conducted, offering practical and easy-to-follow solutions.
Parents and patients expressed relief and reassurance following the discussions. Feedback collected at the end of the programme revealed that most families found the meeting extremely beneficial and urged authorities to organise such sessions regularly in the future. On-the-spot resolution of patient and family concerns further enhanced the impact of the initiative.

This patient support group meeting proved to be a meaningful and necessary step towards raising awareness about childhood diabetes, eliminating misconceptions, and building a strong support network for affected families in Rajnandgaon district.
The meeting was attended by District Panchayat Vice President Mrs. Kiran Sahu, District Panchayat Chairperson Mrs. Anita Mandavi, Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Netraram Navratna, State NCD Nodal Officer Dr. Abhijeet Banerjee, Civil Surgeon Dr. U.S. Chandravanshi, UNICEF Health Specialist Dr. Gajendra Singh, along with paediatric specialists, district programme managers, RMNCH+A consultants, NCD consultants, secretariat assistants, and 21 Type-1 Diabetes patients with their family members.
