5th Chhattisgarh Hockey League 2025 to Begin at Chikhli School Ground, Rajnandgaon

12 Teams from Across India to Compete; 50–50 Formula Aims to Give Local Players National Exposure

The 5th edition of the Chhattisgarh Hockey League 2025, organised by Rudraksham Welfare Society, is set to be held from December 21 to December 28 at the Chikhli School Ground on Dhabha Road, Rajnandgaon. The eight-day All-India level tournament will feature 12 prominent teams from Chhattisgarh and various other states, promising high-quality and competitive hockey action.

The winning team will be awarded a cash prize of ₹31,000, sponsored by social worker Baldev Singh Bhatia, while the runner-up team will receive ₹21,000, sponsored by social worker Bahadur Ali of Aziz Memorial Charitable Trust.

The tournament is being conducted on a unique “50–50 formula”, under which 50 per cent of the participating teams are from Chhattisgarh and the remaining 50 per cent are from other states. This format has been designed to provide local players with an opportunity to compete alongside and against national-level players, thereby enhancing their exposure and experience. Matches will be played in a league-cum-knockout format.

Teams participating in the tournament include Khelo India Centre Rajnandgaon, District Hockey Association Rajnandgaon, State Khelo India Centre of Excellence Bilaspur, District Hockey Association Kawardha, District Hockey Association Durg, Amaravati XI (Maharashtra), R.K. Roy Hockey Academy Patna (Bihar), Bhopal XI (Madhya Pradesh), SAIL Hockey Academy Rourkela (Odisha), Tamil Nadu XI Chennai, Meghbaran Singh Hockey Academy Ghazipur (Uttar Pradesh), and Jharkhand XI.

Organisers have made comprehensive arrangements for players, including food, accommodation, medical facilities, transportation, cultural programmes, and awards such as Best Player and other individual honours. According to the organisers, this is the first time a hockey tournament of such scale is being organised in the Patari Paar (outskirts) area of Rajnandgaon. There is also a strong possibility of participation by international-level players, which is expected to further enhance the stature of the event.

The league is being seen as a significant step towards promoting hockey in the region and strengthening grassroots sports development in Chhattisgarh.
