The district administration in Rajnandgaon has stepped up its drive against illegal paddy procurement and sale during the Kharif Marketing Year 2025–26. Following the instructions of Collector Shri Jitendra Yadav, strict action is being taken against kochis (agents) and middlemen involved in unauthorized paddy trade. Officials have warned that repeat offenders may also face criminal prosecution in the coming days.

As part of this ongoing campaign, a joint team comprising officials from the Revenue, Food, and Mandi departments on Monday seized illegal paddy in two cases. The action resulted in the confiscation of 512.80 quintals (1,282 bags) of illegal paddy valued at ₹15,89,680, along with one vehicle.

With this latest action, the total seizure during the current Kharif marketing season has risen significantly. So far, authorities have registered 191 cases, seizing 26,695.26 quintals (66,738 bags) of illegal paddy worth ₹8,27,55,306, along with 20 vehicles used for transportation.

According to official information, both cases reported on Monday pertained to Dongargaon sub-division, where the seized paddy and vehicle were confiscated during routine checks and inspections.

Subdivision-wise data reveals the scale of the enforcement drive. In Rajnandgaon sub-division, authorities have registered 83 cases, seizing 15,468.80 quintals (38,672 bags) of illegal paddy valued at ₹4,79,53,280, along with seven vehicles. In Dongargarh sub-division, 53 cases have led to the seizure of 5,178.26 quintals (12,946 bags) of paddy worth ₹1,60,52,606 and two vehicles. Meanwhile, Dongargaon sub-division has recorded 55 cases involving 6,048.20 quintals (15,121 bags) of illegal paddy valued at ₹1,87,49,420, along with 11 vehicles.

District officials said continuous monitoring is being carried out across the region. Around 1,500 small and large licensed mandi traders have been listed, and Sub-Divisional Officers, Tehsildars, along with Food and Mandi officials, have been directed to conduct thorough inspections, seize illegally stored paddy, and take strict legal action.

To prevent inter-state illegal movement of paddy, three inter-state checkposts—Bortalaab, Patekohra, and Kallubanjari—have been established in the district. Officials from the Mandi, Home Guards, Forest Department, and Revenue Department have been deployed in three shifts to ensure round-the-clock surveillance.

The district administration has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests and ensuring transparency in the paddy procurement process through sustained enforcement and vigilance.
