Security Forces Neutralize High-Value Targets in Abujhmarh Forest, Advancing Anti-Naxal Operations

In a significant breakthrough for counter-insurgency efforts, security forces conducted a joint operation in the dense Abujhmarh forest region of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district, resulting in the elimination of two senior Maoist commanders on October 9, 2025. The deceased leaders, identified as Basav Raju and Madkam Hidma, were among the most wanted figures in the Communist Party of India (Maoist), carrying a combined bounty of Rs 1.8 crore from authorities in Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
The encounter, which lasted several hours, involved personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), District Reserve Guard (DRG), and local police units. Intelligence inputs indicated the commanders were planning a major attack on security installations. This operation marks the third such high-profile neutralization in the region within the past month, weakening the Maoist leadership structure and boosting morale among forces.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai hailed the operation as a “decisive step towards a Naxal-free Chhattisgarh,” emphasizing the state’s commitment to development in tribal areas once plagued by insurgency. Local communities have expressed relief, hoping for improved infrastructure and tourism in the scenic yet volatile Abujhmarh area. Investigations are ongoing to recover arms and ammunition from the site, with no casualties reported on the security side.
