The Prime Minister Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme is proving to be both economical and beneficial for consumers in Chhattisgarh. By promoting rooftop solar power generation, the initiative is not only reducing household expenses but also contributing significantly to clean energy adoption.
Residents across the district are showing increasing interest in the scheme, with many installing solar panels on their rooftops to reduce bills and contribute surplus energy to the grid. Among them, Mr. Chintaram Chandravanshi of Srishti Colony shared his experience, highlighting how solar energy has transformed his household.
He installed a 5-kilowatt solar panel system in March 2025 at a cost of around ₹3 lakh. With government subsidy support of ₹78,000, his household now enjoys zero electricity bills. Earlier, his monthly bills ranged between ₹2,000–2,500, rising above ₹3,000 during summer months. Since installing solar panels, the bills have been eliminated, with excess power being fed into the grid for future use.

Mr. Chandravanshi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, praising the scheme as a game-changer. He further welcomed the Chhattisgarh government’s additional subsidy announcement of ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 for solar panel installations under the same scheme, calling it a “double benefit” for citizens.
He urged fellow residents to adopt the scheme, highlighting its dual impact—reducing dependence on traditional electricity and supporting environmental conservation.
The PM Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme allows households to generate electricity directly on their rooftops, reducing power bills to zero. Through net metering, surplus power is supplied to the grid, enabling consumers to also earn income. Depending on plant capacity, subsidies range from ₹30,000 to ₹78,000, with additional financial support available via banks at a 7% interest rate.
To avail the scheme, applicants must register at pmsuryaghar.gov.in or through the PM Suryaghar mobile app, select an approved vendor, and complete the installation process under DISCOM supervision. Once verified, the subsidy amount is credited directly to the consumer.
With initiatives like these, households like that of Mr. Chandravanshi are transitioning from electricity consumers to clean energy providers, ensuring both financial relief and a greener tomorrow.
