Fiery Clash in Bihar Assembly: Nitish Kumar Schools Tejashwi Yadav Over RJD’s Legacy

Heated Exchange Erupts as CM Nitish Kumar Dismisses Lalu and Rabri’s Contributions, Touts NDA’s Achievements

The Bihar Assembly turned into a battleground of words today as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav engaged in a heated exchange over the legacy of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) rule under Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. The confrontation, which unfolded during a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, highlighted the deep-seated political rivalry ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

The drama began when Tejashwi Yadav defended the governance record of his parents, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, who served as Chief Ministers of Bihar for several years before 2005. Responding to allegations that their tenure yielded no progress, Tejashwi asserted, “Yes, they did,” claiming their contributions gave voice to the marginalized and brought respect to the downtrodden.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, visibly agitated, shot back with a sharp rebuke: “Sit down. You were a kid back then. How will you know anything? They didn’t do anything. We gave Bihar their due.” Kumar, leading the Janata Dal (United)-BJP alliance, painted a grim picture of Bihar under RJD rule, alleging that people feared stepping out after dark and infrastructure was nonexistent. He credited his NDA government, which took over in 2005, with transforming the state through improved security, roads, and opportunities for women and other communities.

The exchange escalated tensions in the Assembly, with opposition MLAs, donning black shirts to protest the Election Commission’s voter roll revision, clashing with ruling party members. Tejashwi criticized the SIR process, questioning the requirement of 11 documents for voter verification and its timing close to elections, alleging it could disenfranchise millions, including Bihar’s migrant workers. Nitish, defending his government’s record, accused the RJD of misleading the public and failing to deliver during their 15-year rule.

The verbal spat, which prompted Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav to adjourn the session till 2 PM, underscores the intensifying political battle as Bihar gears up for polls. Nitish’s pointed remarks, dismissing Tejashwi’s claims as those of a “child” unaware of the past, have added fuel to the already charged atmosphere. Meanwhile, Tejashwi’s defense of his parents’ legacy signals the RJD’s intent to reclaim its narrative in the face of NDA’s dominance.

As the state heads toward a crucial electoral showdown, this fiery confrontation sets the stage for a fierce campaign, with both sides digging in to assert their vision for Bihar’s past, present, and future.
