“Dr. Mookerjee sacrificed his ministerial position and endured imprisonment and suffering, yet never compromised on his ideological convictions,” Mishra said. “His fight to retain Bengal as part of India, in the face of attempts by then-CM Suhrawardy and the Congress-Pakistan nexus to cede it to Pakistan, was pivotal. He stood firm, and saved Bengal for India.”

Mishra reiterated that India is now on its way to becoming the third-largest economy, and only a disciplined commitment to nationalist ideals can ensure the benefits of a developed India reach every citizen. “BJP is walking the path envisioned by Dr. Mookerjee, Deendayal Upadhyaya, and Dr. Ambedkar. We must stay vigilant against Congress and leftist ideologies,” he added.

District BJP President Komal Singh Rajput, in his address, said Dr. Mookerjee was a true nationalist and a principled leader. “He stood firm against the communal politics of the Muslim League in Bengal and resisted the British-supported division. His vision that one nation must have one constitution, one head, and one emblem laid the groundwork for future integration,” Rajput said, recalling that Dr. Mookerjee was arrested for entering Jammu and Kashmir without a permit in 1953, and died under suspicious circumstances in custody on June 23.
