In a heartfelt post on X, PM Modi expressed his gratitude, stating, “Distance is no barrier when it comes to cultural connect! Honoured by the gracious welcome from the Indian community in Buenos Aires. It is truly moving to see how, thousands of kilometres away from home, the spirit of India shines brightly through our Indian community.”

Upon arriving at the Alvear Palace Hotel on Friday night, the Prime Minister was welcomed with enthusiastic chants of “Modi-Modi,” “Jai Hind,” “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” and even “Jai Shree Ram,” creating an electrifying atmosphere that resonated with India’s rich cultural heritage. The Indian community, joined by Argentine artists of Indian origin, celebrated the occasion with vibrant performances of classical dances such as Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and a Jugalbandi featuring the energetic “Malhari,” showcasing the deep cultural ties between India and Argentina.

Anandini Dasi, an Argentine artist of Indian origin, expressed her excitement to ANI, saying, “It is such a privilege to be a part of the welcome ceremony. We will give our best… I hope he will like it. It is an honour to receive him here.” Another performer highlighted the fusion of cultures, noting, “We have been preparing hard… We are going to do a Jugalbandi, and decided that Malhari was a good way to give a proper welcome to such an important global person.”

Members of the Indian diaspora in Argentina, some of whom have lived in the country for decades, shared their joy at PM Modi’s visit. A community member from Jharkhand, who has been in Argentina for 30 years, told ANI, “We are delighted that someone from our country is visiting here.” The diaspora’s excitement underscored the enduring connection to their Indian roots, with one member describing PM Modi’s journey from a tea seller’s son to a global leader as “immensely inspirational.”

This warm reception came shortly after PM Modi landed at Ezeiza International Airport, where he was accorded a ceremonial welcome. His two-day visit, the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years, aims to strengthen ties in defence, agriculture, mining, energy, trade, and cultural exchanges. PM Modi is set to hold bilateral talks with Argentine President Javier Milei and pay homage to Argentina’s national hero, General Jose de San Martin, at the Plaza de San Martin.
