In a proactive move to ensure an uninterrupted drinking water supply during the summer season, the Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation has announced that water will be released from the Mogra Reservoir on April 28. The released water is expected to reach the Mohara Anicut within approximately 10 days, by May 6, significantly boosting the water level in the Shivnath River and ensuring adequate supply for the residents.

Mayor Madhusudan Yadav and Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma have been closely supervising the water management operations. Regular inspections of the Mohara Shivnath River area and the Water Treatment Plant are being carried out, where raw and clear water are tested daily at the Mohara Laboratory. Critical parameters such as chlorine levels, total hardness, color, and chloride content are meticulously checked to maintain supply standards as per Indian drinking water norms.

This summer, the early decline in the water level at the Mohara Shivnath River led to disruptions in the supply chain. To maintain smooth distribution, water has been sourced periodically from Mokhli, Matiyamoti, and Mogra reservoirs. Currently, the city is receiving water supply three times every two days.

During a recent inspection, Mayor Yadav directed the team to plan for upcoming demands. He emphasized the importance of strengthening the infrastructure by quickly installing a new pump at the 27 MLD (Million Litres per Day) plant, which will help in faster filling of overhead tanks and improve overall water distribution efficiency.

Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma stated that to tackle potential shortages during the peak summer months, the Municipal Corporation has already reserved 50 MCFT (Million Cubic Feet) of water at Mokhli Anicut, 300 MCFT at Matiyamoti Reservoir, and 1000 MCFT at Mogra Reservoir exclusively for drinking purposes. After utilizing water from Mokhli and the first phase of Mogra, the city is now drawing continuous water from Matiyamoti Reservoir.

“As of today, there is a 3-feet water level at Mohara Anicut, sufficient for the next 15 days,” the Commissioner said. “To ensure future readiness, the Mayor has instructed the Water Resources Department to release more water from Mogra Reservoir.”

In compliance with these directives, the Executive Engineer of the Water Resources Department has already initiated the process. Water from the Mogra Reservoir will be released on April 28, and it is anticipated to reach the Shivnath River Anicut by May 6. This measure will stabilize the river’s water level and safeguard the city’s drinking water supply for the months ahead.

The Municipal Corporation’s water supply team is maintaining strict monitoring to ensure that residents continue receiving safe and sufficient drinking water throughout the season.
