Hotel Operator Allegedly Threatened with Knife Over Illegal Extortion in Rajnandgaon; Absconding Accused Arrested

Chichola Police Arrest Another Accused; Four Already Sent to Jail, Search Continues for Two Others

Chichola Police have arrested another absconding accused in a case involving alleged illegal extortion from a hotel operator at knifepoint, verbal abuse, threats to kill and vandalism at the hotel.

The arrested accused has been identified as Sachin Verma, 23, a resident of Dongargarh. Police have also seized the car bearing registration number CG 08 BC 5595, allegedly used in the incident.

The accused was produced before the court and, following the court’s order, was sent to jail on judicial remand.

Hotel Operator Allegedly Attacked After Refusing to Pay ₹800

According to police, hotel operator Neeraj Kumar Patel, a resident of Lalbahadur Nagar, lodged a complaint at Chichola Police Outpost on September 18, 2026.

As per the complaint, Patel was present at his hotel when seven persons allegedly arrived in a car bearing registration number CG 08 BC 5595 and demanded ₹800 from him.

When the hotel operator allegedly refused to pay, the accused reportedly displayed a sharp-edged knife, abused him and threatened to kill him. They allegedly went on to damage items at the hotel.

The complainant immediately informed the police through Dial 112.

Four Accused Arrested Earlier

After receiving information about the incident, Chichola Outpost In-charge Inspector Mukeshwar Dhruv informed senior officers.

Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police Keertan Rathore and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kesarinandan Nayak, the police team initiated action in the case.

On September 19, police arrested four accused—Keshav Sahu (45), Puran Sahu (36), Vinod Nandeshwar (27) and Akash Yadav (26), all residents of Dongargarh.

They were produced before the court and subsequently sent to jail on judicial remand.

Absconding Accused Arrested on Informer's Information

Police were searching for the remaining accused, identified as Sachin Verma, Kailash Yadav and Monu.

On October 2, acting on information received from an informer, police reportedly cordoned off the area and arrested Sachin Verma, son of Vijay Verma, a resident of Indira Nagar, Ward No. 5, Dongargarh.

Police also seized the car allegedly used in the incident.

Case Registered Under BNS and Arms Act

According to police, a case has been registered under Sections 296, 351(2), 189, 308(2), 119 and 191(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.

Police said the search for two other absconding accused in the case is continuing.

Chichola Police Team's Role

The operation involved Outpost In-charge Inspector Mukeshwar Dhruv, Assistant Sub-Inspector Birendra Navik, Constables Gajendra Bhardwaj, Ramesh Katlam and Kesh Lal Ratre, and Woman Constable Kusum Ekka.
