Rajnandgaon Municipal Commissioner Directs Revenue Officials to Accelerate Tax Collection

Demand notices to be issued to taxpayers with dues exceeding ₹50,000; focus on revised property tax demand and systematic recovery

Newly appointed Rajnandgaon Municipal Commissioner G.R. Markam chaired a review meeting of the Revenue Department and directed officials to expedite property tax collection based on the revised demand for the current financial year. He instructed ward in-charges to prepare structured recovery plans and ensure timely collection of outstanding municipal taxes.

During the meeting, Commissioner Markam interacted with ward revenue officials and emphasized that efficient revenue collection is essential for strengthening the financial health of the Municipal Corporation.

Issue Demand Notices to Major Defaulters

The Commissioner directed officials to issue demand notices to taxpayers with outstanding dues exceeding ₹50,000 and personally counsel them to clear pending taxes on time to avoid additional financial liabilities and penalties.

He instructed ward in-charges to prepare a priority-wise list of taxpayers, placing major defaulters at the top, and conduct daily recovery drives with clearly defined collection targets.

According to the Commissioner, setting daily recovery goals and following a planned approach would significantly improve tax collection performance.

Markam instructed officials to finalize and serve the revised property tax demand notices to all taxpayers.

He asked revenue staff to inform citizens that property tax for the current financial year must be paid according to the revised assessment and encouraged timely payment to avoid surcharge or additional charges.

Monitor Cleanliness and Street Lighting

Apart from revenue collection, the Commissioner asked ward officials to regularly inspect sanitation and street lighting in their respective areas.

He directed them to immediately report garbage accumulation to sanitation authorities and inform the electricity wing about non-functional streetlights to ensure prompt resolution.

Promote Solar Rooftops and Rainwater Harvesting

During the meeting, Commissioner Markam also reviewed the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and instructed revenue officials to encourage property owners to install rooftop solar panels by explaining the long-term benefits of the scheme.

He further advised officials to motivate citizens to adopt rainwater harvesting systems during the monsoon season to help improve groundwater recharge and promote sustainable water conservation.

Revenue Officer Mobin Ali, Assistant Revenue Officer Hitesh Thakur, Assistant Revenue Inspectors, and Revenue Sub-Inspectors attended the review meeting.
