‘Viksit Bharat G-RAM-G’ Mission Launched; Rural Employment Increased to 125 Days

Leaders highlight employment generation, water conservation, women’s empowerment and rural infrastructure as key pillars of the new mission

The Viksit Bharat – Rozgar Guarantee and Livelihood Mission Rural (G-RAM-G) was formally launched on Wednesday, with public representatives and officials from Rajnandgaon participating in the inaugural programme through video conferencing. Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh joined the event from his Assembly constituency office, while Member of Parliament Santosh Pandey, Zila Panchayat President Kiran Vaishnav, Collector Jitendra Yadav, along with other elected representatives and officials, participated from the District Panchayat auditorium.

Addressing the programme, MP Santosh Pandey described the mission as a significant initiative aimed at the holistic development of rural areas and the empowerment of economically weaker families. He said the scheme expands employment opportunities while incorporating works related to water conservation, environmental protection, agricultural development, land improvement, rural road construction, and the creation of community assets.

He noted that increasing guaranteed employment from 100 days to 125 days would provide additional livelihood opportunities for rural workers and strengthen the village economy. He further said the initiative would reinforce Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the welfare of the poor and the farming community. He urged public representatives and officials to ensure transparent and sincere implementation of the scheme.

Zila Panchayat President Kiran Vaishnav said the mission would accelerate employment generation, livelihood enhancement, water conservation, disaster management, and the development of rural infrastructure. She pointed out that the employment guarantee under the earlier framework had been increased from 100 days to 125 days, adding that the scheme would support the construction of roads, bridges, canals, water conservation structures, and other development works while helping reduce migration from rural areas.

She also said the initiative would strengthen women’s economic participation and contribute significantly towards achieving the vision of a Developed India by 2047. She appealed to all public representatives to actively promote the scheme across rural areas so that more beneficiaries could be brought under its ambit.

Collector Jitendra Yadav said the enhanced employment period would provide additional income opportunities for rural labour households. He stated that the scope of the mission has been expanded to include water conservation, protection of natural resources, construction works based on local rural needs, and other development activities.

Highlighting the mission’s focus on women’s empowerment, the Collector said more than 1.30 lakh women members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are actively working in the district, and their participation would contribute significantly to the successful implementation of the programme. He added that the mission would prove to be a milestone in promoting rural development, employment generation, women’s economic self-reliance, and reducing migration.

Among those present at the programme were Janpad Panchayat President Pratima Chandrakar, Rajgami Sampada Nyas Chairperson Purnima Sahu, Janpad Panchayat Vice-President Anita Sinha, Rajgami Sampada Nyas Vice-Chairman Manoj Nirvani, Zila Panchayat Members Gopal Singh Bhuarya, Biram Bai Mandavi, Angeshwar Deshmukh and Sheela Sinha, Komal Singh Rajput, Santosh Agrawal, Rajesh Shyamkar, along with other public representatives and government officials.
