A political controversy has emerged within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chhattisgarh following Agriculture and Tribal Development Minister Ramvichar Netam’s visit to the Dongargaon Assembly constituency, represented by Congress MLA Daleshwar Sahu. Local BJP leaders have reportedly expressed displeasure over the minister’s visit and an announcement made during a programme associated with the Congress legislator, alleging that the party organisation was not informed in advance.
The episode has brought renewed attention to the distinction between political differences and personal discord, a principle often associated with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s approach to democratic politics.
Farmers’ Facility Announcement Becomes a Point of Contention
According to the information available, Minister Ramvichar Netam visited Maa Bamleshwari Temple on Thursday before proceeding to the farmhouse of Congress MLA Daleshwar Sahu in Alivara. During a discussion with village sarpanches, the minister announced the installation of an analysis machine intended to facilitate farmers.
Netam subsequently visited Chiddigaon along with MLA Daleshwar Sahu and Congress leader Gulab Verma. At a farmer’s field, he reviewed the condition of the crop and discussed production-related details. Farmers’ concerns were also raised during the interaction.
The visit was reportedly aimed at understanding the functioning of farmer-producer groups and assessing agriculture-related challenges. According to Sahu, the minister had expressed an interest during an Assembly discussion in visiting the area to examine the work of farmer-producer groups.
During the field visit, farmers shared their concerns and were reportedly assured that efforts would be made at the government level to address their problems.
However, the announcement regarding the analysis machine has become a subject of political debate within the BJP. Local leaders have questioned why the party organisation was not informed about the minister’s programme and why the announcement was made at a location associated with a Congress legislator without prior organisational coordination.
Local BJP Leaders Express Displeasure
Former District Panchayat president Dinesh Gandhi said he had not been informed about the minister’s visit. He also indicated that he would bring the matter to the attention of the state-level organisation.
Bharat Verma, vice-president of the District Cooperative Central Bank, also reportedly expressed displeasure over the lack of information provided to the local party organisation.

Local BJP leaders have argued that party workers make substantial efforts during elections and that their role should not be overlooked once the party is in power. They have also raised questions about the need for coordination with the organisation before announcements involving institutions or farmers’ welfare are made in association with an opposition legislator.
According to the information available, leaders from Dongargaon and surrounding BJP mandals have taken up the matter with the district and state-level organisation.
Political Dialogue or Organisational Lapse?
Netam is an experienced political leader who has represented the Ramanujganj Assembly constituency six times and has also served as a Rajya Sabha member. As a senior minister holding important portfolios, his interaction with an opposition legislator is not, by itself, unusual in a democratic system.
Dialogue between elected representatives across party lines can be part of healthy democratic practice, particularly when discussions concern farmers and local development.
At the same time, the reported lack of communication with the local BJP organisation raises a separate question of internal coordination. The farmers’ welfare initiative and the party’s organisational concerns are distinct aspects of the episode and need to be assessed accordingly.
Will the State BJP Organisation Respond?
The controversy has prompted a broader question about how the principle of maintaining political differences without allowing them to become personal or organisational discord should be applied within political parties themselves.
Vajpayee’s emphasis on respecting political opponents and maintaining dialogue is frequently cited as an example of democratic conduct. The current episode has brought that principle into focus within the local BJP unit.
For now, the reported displeasure among local leaders over Netam’s visit and the announcement remains a topic of political discussion. Attention is on the state BJP organisation’s response and any clarification from the minister or other concerned parties regarding the visit, the proposed installation of the analysis machine and the alleged lack of prior communication with the local organisation.
