With the onset of intense summer heat, the Bharat Scouts and Guides Chhattisgarh, under the guidance of the state leadership and in partnership with local volunteers and educational institutions, have inaugurated a month-long Summer Hydration Service (Piaau Ghar) beginning April 9 and continuing through May 9.
This community service initiative was launched at Mahavir Chowk (in front of Nagar Palika Nigam) and Thakur Pyarelal Chowk in Rajnandgaon, as well as Gram Sendri in Dongargarh block, in association with Trishank Mandal Brahman Para, Shri Sandeep Purohit, and Sendri Shala Parivar Dongargarh.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Member of Parliament Santosh Pandey, State Vice President of Bharat Scouts and Guides Rajendra Golcha, District President Umesh Hathel, District Chief Commissioner Mahesh Khandelwal, Lifetime Member Santosh Khandelwal, and other distinguished dignitaries who expressed appreciation for the youth-driven effort.
A wide network of schools and scout units across the Rajnandgaon district participated in the setup and operation of these hydration points. Participating institutions included:
- Govt. Higher Secondary School, Surgi
- Govt. Higher Secondary School, Bhanpuri
- Baldev Prasad Mishra Govt. Higher Secondary School, Basantpur
- Govt. High School, Paneka
- Thakur Pyarelal Govt. Higher Secondary School, Rajnandgaon

The operation and coordination were led by a dedicated team of Scout and Guide officials, including District Scout Commissioner Mr. Muyakh Srivastava, District Guide Commissioner Mrs. Bharti Rajak, District Secretary Mr. Devendra Ambade, District Training Commissioner (Scout) Mr. Mannulal Sahu, and District Training Commissioner (Guide) Mrs. Rakhi Ramteke.
Active support was also provided by Block Secretary D.D. Sahu, Rajaram Dewangan, Hemant Deshmukh, Neerendra Neelam Sahu, and Smt. Somin Sahu.
This initiative is a timely response to the seasonal challenges faced by pedestrians and travelers, especially in public areas lacking access to clean drinking water. It reflects the values of compassion, service, and civic duty that the Scouts and Guides movement instills in youth.
By providing a vital resource during peak summer months, the Summer Hydration Service not only addresses a practical need but also fosters environmental awareness, teamwork, and social empathy among the students and volunteers involved.
