Followers of Sanatan traditions across India, especially married women, celebrated the festival of Vat Savitri with devotion and joy today. The festival is primarily observed by married women who worship the sacred Vat (banyan) tree and pray for the long life, prosperity, and well-being of their husbands.
Devotional Gathering at Ramdev Baba Temple
At Ramdev Baba Temple, a large number of women gathered once again this year to perform the traditional Vat Savitri rituals. The temple premises house a nearly 70-year-old banyan tree, under which women assemble every year in significant numbers to observe fasting and conduct prayers.
From morning till late evening, women continued arriving at the temple dressed in traditional colorful attire, including sarees, bangles, and sindoor, reflecting the cultural richness associated with the festival.
Cultural Unity Reflected in Celebrations

The temple witnessed participation from women belonging to diverse communities. Devotees from the Marwari community, along with families connected to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Bengal, Maharashtra, and other regions, gathered together to perform rituals according to their respective traditions.
The collective celebration created a vibrant atmosphere of cultural harmony and unity, showcasing India’s diverse yet connected spiritual traditions.
Significance of the Savitri–Satyavan Legend
The spiritual foundation of the Vat Savitri fast is rooted in the legendary tale of Savitri and Satyavan. According to tradition, Savitri used her wisdom, devotion, and determination to win back the life of her husband Satyavan from Lord Yama, the god of death. It is believed that she performed her prayers under a banyan tree, which is why the Vat tree holds special religious significance.
Remembering this sacred story, women observe the fast and offer prayers seeking the longevity and prosperity of their husbands.
Temple Administration Ensures Devotee Comfort
Temple priests Sharad Tanwar and Komal Tanwar informed that every year a large number of women devotees participate in the Vat Savitri Puja at the temple. Keeping the summer heat in mind, arrangements such as cold drinking water, coolers, chairs, and seating facilities were made for the convenience of devotees.
