A new chapter of development is unfolding in Sukma district as improved security conditions and administrative outreach have enabled large-scale public welfare initiatives to reach remote communities. The recently organised Super Specialty Mega Health Camp witnessed an overwhelming response, symbolising the transition of the region from conflict toward healthcare access and social development.

Free Super Specialty Healthcare Reaches Remote Villages

The Mega Health Camp served as a comprehensive free medical initiative where renowned super specialist doctors provided consultation, diagnosis, treatment and medicines for serious illnesses including cancer, heart disease, gynecological disorders and eye ailments. The camp also offered Ayurvedic treatment, modern diagnostic facilities and distribution of artificial limbs for persons with disabilities.

With peace and stability gradually strengthening in the region, administrative services are now reaching the last mile population that had long remained isolated due to security challenges.

Joint Effort by Administration and NTR Foundation

The two-day Super Specialty Mega Health Camp was organised through a collaborative effort between the Sukma district administration and Bengaluru-based NTR Foundation. The camp was inaugurated by State Forest and Climate Change Minister and Sukma District In-charge Minister Kedar Kashyap.

More than 3,700 villagers from sensitive and interior areas participated fearlessly in the camp—areas once cut off from mainstream services. Under the direction of Bastar Commissioner Doman Singh and the guidance of Collector Amit Kumar, the initiative successfully attracted over 6,500 beneficiaries, reflecting growing public trust in governance and modern healthcare services.

A dedicated team comprising 21 specialist doctors and 40 healthcare workers delivered medical care, becoming a lifeline for tribal communities residing in remote forest regions.

Sukma’s Transformation from Conflict Zone to Development Model

Sukma, once overshadowed by decades of insurgency-related fear, is now witnessing visible transformation. The Mega Health Camp held at the Mini Stadium on March 28 and 29 stood as living evidence of changing ground realities—where sounds of conflict have been replaced by service-oriented governance and public welfare initiatives.

The camp demonstrated how improved peace conditions have enabled healthcare delivery, development outreach and citizen participation to flourish in previously inaccessible regions.

Advanced Treatment and Preventive Healthcare Initiatives

The camp went beyond treatment of common illnesses and included specialised consultations for cancer, cardiology and neurology-related conditions. Elderly residents who previously lacked access to healthcare received 989 pairs of spectacles, restoring improved vision and quality of life.

A comprehensive health screening of 1,500 children was conducted to address malnutrition and prevent future health complications. Additionally, 85 women underwent cancer screening, while 2,300 ABHA health IDs were created, strengthening the district’s integration into India’s digital healthcare ecosystem.

Strengthening Universal Health Coverage

The initiative also focused on expanding financial healthcare protection. A total of 153 Ayushman Cards were generated on the spot, ensuring that economically weaker residents would not be deprived of medical treatment due to financial constraints.

The Mega Health Camp emerged not only as a medical outreach programme but also as a celebration of public trust in governance. Sukma is now moving beyond its past identity toward becoming a model district for inclusive healthcare and universal health coverage.

A Symbol of Hope and Inclusive Development

The transformation of Sukma following the decline of insurgency reflects how peace and development go hand in hand. The success of the Mega Health Camp highlights a broader administrative commitment to bring healthcare, dignity and opportunity to every citizen, even in the most remote corners.

Today, Sukma stands as an inspiring example of resilience and progress—where improved security has paved the way for better healthcare, smiling faces and a hopeful future.
