To address rising traffic congestion and improve road safety, the police have implemented a diversion plan for heavy vehicles in Rajnandgaon city. The measure, which came into effect under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma, mandates that heavy vehicles avoid entering the city between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm and instead use the designated bypass routes.
The initiative is being executed under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore and led by Traffic In-charge Inspector Navratan Kashyap. Officials stated that the decision was taken in view of the city’s continuous expansion and the sharp increase in vehicular movement, which has led to severe congestion at key junctions including Pendri, Raj Imperial Chowk, R.K. Nagar Chowk, BJP Office Tiraha, and Ramdarbar Chowk.
Authorities noted that traffic pressure is particularly intense during morning and evening peak hours when office commuters and residents are on the roads. The presence of heavy vehicles during these hours significantly increases the risk of accidents and slows down traffic flow.

To ensure smoother and safer movement, heavy vehicles are now being diverted through the previously constructed bypass route via CIT Cut Chowk and Transport Nagar Tiraha. Police personnel have been deployed at diversion points for traffic management, and flex boards indicating diversion routes have also been installed to guide drivers.
Traffic Police Advisory for Heavy Vehicle Drivers:
- Do not enter the city between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm.
- Use the bypass route via Transport Nagar and CIT Chowk for transit.
- Avoid overtaking on the bypass road.
- Do not park vehicles along the route.
- In emergencies, park only at designated spaces under the flyover.
Officials expressed hope that the diversion plan will significantly reduce congestion within city limits and enhance commuter safety. The traffic police have also urged transport operators and drivers to cooperate with authorities for effective implementation.
