On the occasion of Youth Day, the Sanskardhani Archery Association, district unit Rajnandgaon, organised a one-day archery competition on January 18, 2026, at the International Hockey Stadium, Rajnandgaon. Inspired by the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, the objective of the competition was to encourage youth towards traditional sports and to promote emerging sporting talent.
The closing ceremony was held under the chief guestship of Tourism Board Chairman Neelu Sharma, with Mayor Madhusudan Yadav presiding over the programme. BJP North Mandal President Sumit Bhatia, Kasturba Mahila Mandal patron and social worker Sharda Tiwari, secretary Sadhana Tiwari, and Gemu Kunjam attended the event as special guests.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Neelu Sharma said that archery is an important discipline from India’s mythological era, with references found in epic texts such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata. He noted that in ancient times, archery was practised both as a means of warfare and as a sport. Reviving and promoting this traditional sport in modern times, he said, is a highly commendable initiative. He praised the efforts of the trainers and office-bearers of the Sanskardhani Archery Association and assured them of all possible support in the future.

Emphasising current challenges, he said that at a time when children are increasingly confined to mobile phones and television, initiatives promoting sports for their physical and mental development are truly praiseworthy.

At the conclusion of the programme, the guests felicitated the winners and runners-up of the competition by presenting them with grand trophies. Prominent among those present were association secretary Rahul Sahu, vice-president Radheshyam Gupta, senior players Kushal Rajak, Anjali Yadav, Bhupendra Sinha, Jatin Yadav, Rahul Sahu, along with a large number of players’ parents and sports enthusiasts.
