The Chhattisgarh State Farmers’ Union (Pradesh Kisan Sangh) has announced a series of street meetings (nukkad sabhas) against alleged illegal collection of money from farmers at paddy procurement centres in the name of labour charges.
As part of the protest programme, street meetings will be organised on Saturday at 4 pm at Singhola Market and 5 pm at Surgi Market. The union has stated that the agitation aims to raise awareness among farmers and demand an immediate halt to such unauthorised deductions during paddy procurement.

Notably, a signature campaign is also being carried out on a memorandum addressed to local legislators on the same issue. On Thursday, a delegation of the farmers’ union met Dongargaon MLA Daleshwar Sahu and apprised him of the situation. The MLA, after seeking detailed information, assured the delegation that action would be taken to stop illegal collection from farmers.
Under the signature campaign, representatives of the union have visited several villages including Haldi, Bhavarmara, Singhola, Bhothipar, Karmatara and Navagaon, urging farmers to support the movement and make it successful. The union reiterated that farmers should not be burdened with unjust charges during the procurement process.
