‘Zero Incident, Zero Accident’ No Coincidence, but Result of a Firm Strategy: Rajnandgaon Police Sets Benchmark in Proactive Policing

The successful achievement of the “Zero Incident–Zero Accident” target during New Year 2026 in Rajnandgaon district was not a matter of chance, but the outcome of a well-planned, strictly enforced and ground-level policing strategy. The district police demonstrated that effective law enforcement today is not limited to post-incident action, but is defined by the ability to prevent incidents before they occur.

Anticipating risks associated with New Year celebrations—such as drunken driving, overspeeding, unruly behaviour, dangerous stunts and uncontrolled festivities—the Rajnandgaon Police began comprehensive preparations nearly a week in advance. The objective was clear: celebrations were welcome, but not at the cost of human life.

Under the leadership of Superintendent of Police Ms. Ankita Sharma, the police administration conveyed a firm and unambiguous message across the district. As a result, the New Year passed without families rushing to hospitals, parents being summoned to police stations, or homes plunged into grief due to avoidable accidents.

The police approach was rooted in the belief that most road accidents are not acts of fate or “God-made mishaps”, but consequences of conscious negligence—driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless speeding and irresponsible behaviour. Keeping this in mind, the police identified the four to five days around December 31 and January 1 as a high-risk period and implemented heightened enforcement measures.

Key highways were divided into sectors, drone cameras were deployed for aerial surveillance, mobile check-posts operated round-the-clock, and immediate action was taken against drunken drivers. Hotels, dhabas and tourist spots were subjected to intensive checks, while known troublemakers were kept under preventive surveillance well before the festivities.

What stood out during this period was the absence of chaos or disorder. There were no reports of uncontrolled noise, unruly crowds or unpleasant incidents. Whether in urban areas, rural pockets, highways or tourist destinations, a calm and secure environment prevailed—an achievement considered rare during large-scale celebrations.

This proactive policing brought visible relief not only to ordinary citizens but also to parents of young people who often take risks during New Year celebrations. For many families, it was the first New Year in years that passed without fear, anxiety or apprehension.

At a time when metropolitan cities like Mumbai and Delhi frequently report accidents and law-and-order issues following New Year celebrations, Rajnandgaon proved that timely planning, clear intent and strict enforcement can completely alter outcomes.

The success also underscored that police–public cooperation in the district has moved beyond slogans to become a ground reality. This New Year in Rajnandgaon did not merely mark a change of date on the calendar, but set a new precedent for safe, disciplined and responsible celebrations.
