In a landmark announcement during the Su-Shasan Tihar Samadhan Shivir in the forested region of Madeli, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai declared the long-awaited completion of the Piparchhedi Irrigation Project, which had remained stalled for 45 years. The decision is set to transform the agricultural prospects of more than 10 villages in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district, directly benefiting over 5,000 farmers.

The irrigation project, which began in 1977 with the intent to build a dam over the Ghunghuti Nala, was halted in 1980 due to the enactment of the Forest Conservation Act and the lack of environmental clearance. Since then, the project remained in limbo, with successive governments failing to revive it, leaving the local farming community in prolonged despair.

However, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government granted the long-awaited environmental clearance, paving the way for revival. CM Vishnu Deo Sai made the announcement amidst an emotional and jubilant gathering, describing the project not just as an irrigation initiative but as a symbol of the farmers’ long-standing struggle, patience, and hope.

“This is not merely an infrastructure project – it is the triumph of the farmer’s will,” the Chief Minister said. “This decision reflects the true meaning of Su-Shasan Tihar – bringing real transformation to the lives of the people.”

The completion of the Piparchhedi project will provide assured irrigation to thousands of acres of farmland, increase crop productivity, improve farmers’ incomes, and catalyze holistic development in this remote tribal region.
