Under the directives of District Collector and Magistrate Sanjay Agrawal, the Rajnandgaon Excise Department has intensified its action against illegal liquor traders and public alcohol consumption. In a recent raid, the department seized a consignment of 40 bottles (7.2 bulk litres) of illegally stored Maharashtra-made orange-flavored country liquor from a residential house in village Bholapur, Chhuriya police station limits.

According to Assistant Excise Commissioner Yadunandan Rathore, the raid was carried out at the residence of one Sachin Kumar Sahu, who was found in possession of the contraband liquor. He has been arrested under non-bailable offenses punishable under the Excise Act and has been remanded to judicial custody.

The operation forms part of an ongoing district-wide drive to curb illicit liquor trade, protect public health, and maintain law and order. Alongside seizure raids, the Excise Department is also conducting regular inspections of hotels, roadside dhabas, and licensed liquor outlets to prevent unlawful alcohol sales.

Assistant Commissioner Rathore has issued strict directives to all Excise Circle Officers to intensify checks across their jurisdictions and ensure that illegal liquor trade and on-premise consumption are eradicated, especially during the high-demand summer season.

The successful operation was led by Excise Sub-Inspector Rajkumar Kurre (Chichola Circle), with support from Excise Constables Nizam Shah, Manish Rajak, and Anil Sinha.

This incident not only highlights the department’s vigilance but also sends a strong message to bootleggers and unauthorized vendors operating in the region.

The administration has reiterated its commitment to maintaining a liquor-regulated environment, safeguarding community well-being, and ensuring that all sellers and consumers comply with the Excise and Public Drinking Laws.

Authorities have urged citizens to report any suspicious liquor trade in their locality and assist in maintaining a safe and lawful society.
