In a landmark move to advance educational innovation, the Vinoba Team, under the OpenLinks Foundation, and the Rajnandgaon District Administration signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to enhance the quality of education in government schools. The agreement, formalized at a ceremony in Rajnandgaon, aims to leverage the Vinoba App to streamline academic programs, boost teacher motivation, and significantly improve learning outcomes for students across the district’s Zila Parishad schools.
The Vinoba App, a flagship initiative of the OpenLinks Foundation founded by Sanjay Dalmia, is designed to transform rural education by integrating technology and behavioral science to support teachers and administrators. Launched in Pune in April 2022, the app has already impacted over 28,000 Zila Parishad schools across 17 districts in Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, benefiting 1,05,000 teachers and 23 lakh students. In Rajnandgaon, the app will facilitate efficient implementation of academic initiatives like Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), practice tests for competitive exams, and life skills programs such as spoken English, poetry recitation, and financial literacy.

District Collector Shri Ayush Prasad, who played a pivotal role in rolling out the Vinoba App in Pune, emphasized its potential, stating, “The MoU with the Vinoba Team marks a new era for education in Rajnandgaon. The Vinoba App will empower our teachers with tools to simplify data collection, monitor student progress, and foster a vibrant learning community, ensuring our government schools become centers of excellence.” The app’s features, including automated assessment correction and performance analysis, have already saved teachers thousands of hours, as seen in Maharashtra, where over 31,163 hours were saved in 2023-24 by automating the correction of 1 lakh answer sheets.
The MoU outlines a collaborative framework where the district administration will utilize the Vinoba App to monitor attendance, track academic progress, and recognize high-performing teachers and schools through transparent, data-driven metrics. The app’s social media-like platform allows teachers to share best practices, classroom innovations, and achievements, fostering peer learning and motivation. In Pune, an 8-week FLN-Nipun program using the Vinoba App led to an 8% improvement in student outcomes, with over 12,000 students showing progress. Similar results are anticipated in Rajnandgaon, enhancing the district’s educational landscape.
Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, lauded the initiative, saying, “This partnership aligns with our vision to make government schools the preferred choice for quality education. The Vinoba App’s innovative approach will empower our teachers and students, driving holistic development in Rajnandgaon.” The MoU also paves the way for expanding life skills programs, ensuring students are equipped with 21st-century skills as outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Vinoba App’s success in other districts, such as improving attendance tracking in Raipur and Gariaband and supporting competitive exam preparation for over 50,000 students in Maharashtra, underscores its potential to revolutionize education in Rajnandgaon. Plans are underway to scale this initiative to other states like Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand, further strengthening India’s public education system.
This MoU is a testament to the power of public-private partnerships in transforming education. By harnessing technology, the Vinoba App is set to make Rajnandgaon’s government schools a model of innovation, ensuring that every student has access to quality education and a brighter future.
