Unidentified Youth’s Body Found Near Canal in Raipur Outskirts

Suspected murder probe launched as police scour for clues in early morning discovery amid rising urban crime concerns

A grim discovery jolted Raipur’s northern fringes on October 11, 2025, when passersby spotted the decomposed body of an unidentified young man, estimated 25-30 years old, floating near a irrigation canal in the Abhanpur area, triggering a full-scale homicide investigation by local authorities.

The corpse, clad in partial denim and bearing ligature marks on the neck suggestive of strangulation, was fished out by SDRF divers around 7 AM, with forensic teams noting tattoos and a mobile phone fragment as potential identifiers. Initial post-mortem hints at foul play, ruling out drowning as the primary cause, and CCTV footage from nearby farm roads shows the victim with two unidentified men late the previous night. Raipur Superintendent of Police Sanket Yadav mobilized three teams for door-to-door inquiries and technical surveillance, suspecting a personal dispute or robbery gone awry, given the area’s sporadic reports of youth gang rivalries.

The deceased’s family remains untraced despite DNA sampling rushes, while community watch groups demand better lighting and patrols along waterways. This case adds to Chhattisgarh’s urban safety challenges, with officials vowing enhanced night policing to deter opportunistic crimes in expanding peri-urban zones.
