In response to increasing traffic pressure and the growing risk of road accidents, the Rajnandgaon Traffic Police has launched a special safety campaign along the city’s bypass road to strengthen preventive measures and ensure safer commuting conditions.

The drive has been initiated under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma, with guidance from Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore, and is being led by Traffic In-charge Navratan Kashyap.

According to the Traffic Department, heavy vehicles passing through CID Chowk and Transport Nagar Chowk are being diverted to reduce congestion on busy city stretches and minimize the risk of collisions. Officials stated that traffic volume in the area has steadily increased in recent months, necessitating immediate intervention.

The bypass road near the liquor outlet zone had emerged as a high-risk area, particularly during late evening and night hours. Excessive vehicular movement, crowding, low visibility, high speeds and instances of reckless overtaking were identified as primary factors contributing to accident vulnerability in the stretch.

Taking note of the seriousness of the situation, traffic authorities have implemented a series of technical and safety-oriented measures on the ground.

Key Safety Measures Implemented:

  • Installation of road-side safety stoppers along vulnerable stretches.
  • Application of radium reflective strips on stoppers to enhance night-time visibility.
  • Placement of cautionary signboards displaying messages such as “Drive Slow,” “Do Not Overtake,” and “Avoid Over-Speeding.”
  • Installation of reflective strips on iron poles on both sides of the flyover to improve visibility during night hours.

Traffic experts emphasize that bypass routes are particularly prone to accidents due to over-speeding, sudden lane changes and reduced visibility after dark. Reflective indicators and speed-control measures are widely regarded as effective tools in accident prevention.

The Traffic Police has appealed to citizens to strictly adhere to prescribed speed limits, avoid unnecessary overtaking, maintain lane discipline and refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol. Officials reiterated that road safety is a shared responsibility and cannot be ensured by enforcement agencies alone.

“Safe traffic management is possible only when drivers remain vigilant and follow rules responsibly,” police authorities stated, adding that enforcement checks will continue in the coming days to ensure compliance.

The special campaign is expected to significantly reduce accident risks along the bypass corridor while easing congestion in the city’s core areas.
