In a major boost to rural education, the Chhattisgarh government’s school rationalisation initiative is bringing much-needed educational support to remote villages of Chhuriya block in Rajnandgaon district. The scheme, aimed at improving teacher deployment and academic quality, is being hailed as a transformative step by educators and villagers alike.
Prior to this rationalisation, 93 primary schools in the region were operating with only a single teacher, severely hampering students’ learning outcomes. Similarly, 9 upper primary schools were managed by only one teacher each. However, after the implementation of rationalisation, only one primary and one upper primary school remain in the single-teacher category.
Notably, six primary schools that had no teachers at all are now fully staffed. This move has led to improved teaching-learning conditions, regular classes, and better student engagement. Villagers have welcomed the decision, noting that the consistent presence of teachers will improve children’s academic performance and reduce dropout rates.

The rationalisation has also addressed the imbalance caused by an overconcentration of teachers in urban areas, ensuring more equitable distribution in rural regions. Villages like Kuhikala, Pendridi, Padrapani, Ghortalab, and the government English medium school in Chhuriya have all benefited from this initiative, particularly in tribal areas where educational access was limited.
Parents and community members have expressed satisfaction, saying that their children now have a brighter academic future. “Earlier, due to the absence of teachers, our children’s learning was irregular. Now things have improved significantly,” said one local parent.
The initiative not only helps optimise teaching resources but also promotes effective classroom management, better learning outcomes, and ensures that government educational facilities are utilised efficiently.
With the success of rationalisation in Chhuriya block, the district administration and education department are hopeful that similar outcomes can be replicated in other rural regions of the state.
