Rajnandgaon’s sporting ecosystem has received a significant boost with the approval of major infrastructure projects, including a new synthetic athletic track and the long-awaited replacement of the astro turf at the International Hockey Stadium. The projects have been sanctioned through the efforts of Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, with a total investment of ₹15.5 crore aimed at expanding and upgrading sports facilities in the city.

Under the approved plan, a state-of-the-art synthetic athletic track will be constructed at Navagaon at a cost of ₹9 crore, paving the way for improved training and competition facilities for athletes. In addition, the long-pending demand of hockey players has been fulfilled, with approximately ₹6 crore sanctioned for replacing the astro turf at the International Hockey Stadium. An additional ₹50 lakh has been approved for renovation and improvement of the lawn tennis court.

All projects have received administrative approval, raising expectations that this year’s prestigious Mahant Raja Sarveshwar Das Memorial Hockey Tournament, proposed to be held in February, will be played on the newly installed turf. Officials also informed that under the Khelo India project, a separate approval of ₹9.5 crore has been granted for the construction of an eight-lane synthetic athletic track for the hockey nursery, with ₹6.36 crore as the central share and ₹3 crore as the state contribution.

Welcoming the development, the district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party expressed gratitude to Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh and the Vishnu Deo Sai-led State Government. District BJP President Komal Singh Rajput said that the replacement of the astro turf will significantly enhance facilities for hockey players and help young athletes prepare better for competitive events.

Several BJP leaders, including Komal Singh Rajput, Saurabh Kothari, Dinesh Sahu, Treasurer Bhavesh Baid, District Vice Presidents Tarun Lahrawani, Rohit Chandrakar, Mulchand Lodhi and Jigun Tank, collectively thanked Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao and the entire state government for the initiative.

Blue Turf to Host Hockey Matches
According to information shared by the BJP media cell, the year holds special significance for the hockey fraternity as Hockey India celebrates its 100th anniversary. Adding to the excitement, the globally renowned Raja Sarveshwar Das Memorial Hockey Tournament will be organised on a modern blue-coloured advanced turf this year. The announcement has generated tremendous enthusiasm among hockey players, who see the upgraded surface as a milestone for the sport in Rajnandgaon.
