Rajnandgaon – A horrifying incident late Wednesday night at the busy Manav Mandir Chowk has left the entire city in shock.

Inside Lakshmi Medical Stores, a customer was brutally attacked with repeated knife blows by Mahfooz Khan (28), resident of Shanti Nagar, Gali No. 2, who stormed into the shop and stabbed Anoop Yadav alias Mundu Yadav (50) multiple times.

CCTV Shows Chilling Scene

In the CCTV footage, Mahfooz is seen tying a cloth around his head while attacking, stabbing the victim repeatedly in the chest, neck, and waist, even kicking him as he lay helpless on the floor.
The attack was so terrifying that staff members and customers fled the shop — no one stepped forward to intervene.

“Call my family… I want to see them one last time” — Victim’s heart-wrenching video emerges

A severely injured Anoop Yadav was initially taken to the district medical college.
In a viral video from the emergency ward, he is heard pleading:

“Call my family… I want to see them one last time.”

Struggling to breathe through life-support equipment, he clearly named his attacker:

“Mahfooz ne maara hai… even if I die, my statement should count.”

Due to his critical condition, he was shifted to a private hospital in Raipur, where his condition remains extremely serious.

Swift Police Action — Accused Arrested Within Minutes

Police had already launched combing patrols across the city that night.
SP Ankita Sharma and ASP Rahul Dev Sharma were on ground duty when the incident occurred.

SP Sharma reached the spot within 15–20 minutes, and a tight cordon across the city led to Mahfooz’s arrest from his house within minutes.

Police seized the button-operated knife used in the attack and the scooty seen in CCTV.

Case Registered Under:

  • BNS Section 109A — Attempt to murder under special circumstances / life-threatening assault
  • Arms Act Sections 25 & 27

Police confirmed that the accused has a history of criminal behaviour.

Yadav Community Erupts in Anger — Demand Bulldozer Action & Encounter

On Friday afternoon, hundreds of members of the Yadav community gathered outside the Collectorate and SP office, raising slogans of “Jai Yadav – Jai Madhav”.

State Vice-President Harish Yadav told the media:

“Such criminals deserve an encounter…
or bulldozers should be used on their homes.
If strict action isn’t taken, we will intensify the agitation.”

Questions Raised on Society and Public Response

Despite being in a crowded marketplace, inside a shop full of people, no one intervened as a man was stabbed repeatedly.
The incident exposes troubling questions about public apathy, fear, and the state of civic responsibility.

Current Situation

  • The accused has been sent to jail on warrant.
  • Victim Anoop Yadav’s condition remains extremely critical.
  • Police have increased patrolling in and around Manav Mandir Chowk, with heightened deployment of mobile forces at sensitive points.
