An interfaith marriage case in Rajnandgaon city of Chhattisgarh has recently become a major topic of public debate, drawing social and political attention across the region. The relationship between a young woman from Mamta Nagar, Kalpana (name changed), and a youth named Sohil from Kasaipara has triggered growing controversy.
Several Hindu organizations have alleged that the case is linked to “Love Jihad,” while district authorities have clarified that the matter is currently under investigation and no official conclusion has been reached so far.
Marriage Application Led to Dispute
According to available information, the couple had submitted an application for marriage before the SDM Court, with the hearing reportedly scheduled for May 29.
The woman’s family has alleged that the accused initially contacted her through faith-healing practices and later developed a friendship, eventually influencing her decision regarding marriage.
The woman’s father, Ramesh Shrivastava (name changed), had earlier filed a missing person complaint when she was reportedly untraceable.
Protests by Hindu Organizations
Following the emergence of the case, organizations including Bajrang Dal became active and staged demonstrations at the Collectorate premises. Protesters organized recitations of the Hanuman Chalisa and expressed dissatisfaction with the administration’s handling of the matter.
Demonstrators demanded a thorough investigation and emphasized the need to ensure the safety and well-being of the woman involved.

Sources indicate that the woman has been kept at the District Sakhi Centre for safety and counselling purposes. Police officials are currently recording statements from both parties and examining the case through proper legal procedures.
Authorities have stated that no official confirmation regarding “Love Jihad” allegations has been made, and the investigation will proceed strictly on the basis of facts and law to maintain public order.

The case has gained significant attention on social media platforms as well as in local news coverage, leading to widespread public discussion. The administration has appealed to citizens to avoid spreading rumors and maintain peace while the investigation continues.
