Rajnandgaon Collector Jitendra Yadav conducted a surprise inspection of Gauri Nagar ward on Wednesday evening, interacting with residents to assess the availability of drinking water, sanitation, and other essential civic amenities. During the visit, he also met high-risk pregnant women (HRP) at their homes to review their health condition and evaluate the healthcare services being provided by the Health Department.

The Collector said that a special health campaign is being implemented across the district to reduce maternal and infant mortality by ensuring dedicated monitoring and care for high-risk pregnancies. Under the initiative, pregnant women are being regularly monitored through weekly telephonic follow-ups, provided free ultrasound examinations whenever required, and visited at home by healthcare teams as they approach their expected date of delivery for health assessments and medical counselling. They are also being informed about various government schemes related to maternal and child healthcare.
During the inspection, the Collector visited the residence of 25-year-old Namita Yadav in Gauri Nagar and enquired about her health status. He reviewed the medical support being extended by the Health Department, including free ultrasound services, regular health check-ups, and the medical guidance provided by healthcare teams.
He later visited 27-year-old Ishwari Samarit, a resident of Masjid Gali in Gauri Nagar. Owing to her medical history of two previous miscarriages and a Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS), she has been identified as a high-risk pregnant woman. The Collector directed Health Department officials to ensure continuous and special monitoring of her health.

The Collector stated that under the ongoing campaign, all identified high-risk pregnant women are being contacted every week over the telephone to monitor their health conditions. In addition to free ultrasound facilities, healthcare teams are conducting home visits for women nearing their expected delivery dates to provide regular health monitoring and counselling.
He emphasised that timely identification of high-risk pregnancies, routine health examinations, and continuous monitoring are essential for ensuring safe motherhood. The Collector noted that the district’s special campaign has been yielding positive outcomes, with a steady decline being recorded in maternal and infant mortality rates.
Joint Collector Sheetal Bansal, Chief Medical and Health Officer N.R. Navratna, and other officials of the Health Department were present during the inspection.
