In a scathing critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on September 26, 2025, voiced strong support for agitating students in Uttarakhand protesting a recent examination paper leak scandal. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi alleged that unemployment in India is intrinsically tied to “vote chori” (vote theft), branding the BJP as synonymous with “paper chor” (paper thieves). His remarks came amid widespread outrage over the leak of question papers for state recruitment exams, affecting thousands of aspirants and sparking violent clashes with police in Dehradun.

Gandhi emphasized that the BJP’s indifference to youth employment stems from a strategy focused on electoral manipulation rather than genuine development, urging nationwide solidarity with the protesters. “The BJP isn’t concerned about jobs for our youth; they’re only worried about staying in power through stolen votes,” he posted, linking the incident to broader systemic failures in education and recruitment processes.
