Rajnandgaon district is recording steady and encouraging progress under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, as the district administration continues focused efforts to extend the benefits of the scheme to a growing number of households.

Under the flagship initiative, consumers are being provided subsidies of up to ₹1.08 lakh jointly by the Central and State governments, making rooftop solar installations significantly more affordable and accessible. As a result, interest among residents has risen sharply.

So far, the district has received 7,800 applications, out of which vendor selection has been completed for 3,079 beneficiaries. Solar panels have already been installed in 1,100 homes, while 756 consumers have successfully received subsidy payments. During the past week alone, 183 new applications were submitted and 68 installations were completed, reflecting the accelerating pace of implementation.

The impact of the scheme is now clearly visible at the grassroots level. A large number of consumers have reported substantial reductions in their electricity bills, with several households receiving zero or even negative bills. In many cases, beneficiaries are earning additional income by selling surplus solar power back to the grid, creating a new source of revenue while promoting clean energy adoption.

Beyond financial savings, the initiative is empowering families to become energy self-reliant, aligning with India’s broader goals of sustainability and renewable energy expansion.

The district administration is working continuously to ensure quality installations, timely disbursal of subsidies, and ongoing support to consumers throughout the process. Officials have appealed to citizens to actively participate in the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and transform their homes with clean, affordable, and self-sustaining energy solutions.

The steady rollout of rooftop solar under the scheme is not only easing household expenses but also contributing to environmental conservation and strengthening Rajnandgaon’s transition towards a greener future.
