Patriotic Revolution: CM Yogi Makes 'Vande Mataram' Mandatory in All UP Educational Institutions Anandamath

“There should be a sense of respect for the national song Vande Mataram. We will make its singing compulsory in every school and educational institution of Uttar Pradesh,” CM Yogi proclaimed, sending a clear message that no force can undermine India’s unity and integrity. This move comes amid nationwide celebrations marking 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’, the iconic anthem penned by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875 and immortalized in his novel Anandamath. The song, which fueled the freedom struggle and was sung at every Congress session from 1896 to 1922, has been a symbol of resistance against colonial rule and divisive forces.

CM Yogi did not mince words while highlighting the song’s role in preventing national fragmentation. He warned against elements that weaken unity in the name of caste, region, or language, stating, “We must identify factors that divide society… so that no new Jinnahs are born in the future to challenge India’s integrity.” Referring to historical opposition to the song, which contributed to the tragic partition of India, he asserted that opposing ‘Vande Mataram’ insults the sacrifices of revolutionaries and insults Bharat’s soul. “No religion or caste can be greater than the country,” he declared, vowing to bury divisive intents before they take root.

This directive builds on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks criticizing the 1937 decision to drop key stanzas of the song, which sowed seeds of division. By mandating ‘Vande Mataram’ in classrooms, the Yogi government is reclaiming India’s cultural heritage and ensuring the youth grow up with an unshakeable sense of patriotism. From primary schools to universities, the anthem will now be recited or sung daily, inspiring reverence just as it did for freedom fighters who faced the gallows chanting these very words.
