A shocking murder case has emerged from Raipur, where a man was brutally beaten to death after refusing to share a beedi (local hand-rolled cigarette) with his friends during a late-night drinking session. According to police, the victim, identified as Sanjay Verma (35), was drinking with three acquaintances in the Pandri area on Thursday night.

A minor argument broke out when one of them asked him for a beedi. Verma refused, which angered the men, and the situation quickly turned violent. The trio allegedly attacked him with sticks and fists, resulting in fatal injuries. In an attempt to hide the crime, they dumped his body in a nearby drain and fled the scene. Locals discovered the body the next morning and alerted the police. A team from the Pandri police station identified the suspects through CCTV footage from a nearby shop and arrested them within hours. The accused have been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Preliminary investigation suggests that all four men were intoxicated, and the argument escalated due to alcohol consumption. Police have also recovered blood-stained clothes and sticks used in the assault. Superintendent of Police (Raipur) stated that such incidents highlight the growing problem of alcohol-related violence in the city.

He urged citizens to exercise restraint and report disputes before they turn deadly. The tragic incident has sparked concern in the community, with local residents calling for stricter control over liquor shops and more police patrolling at night.
