Major Breakthrough in Anti-Naxal Campaign: Two Top Commanders Eliminated in Abujhmarh

High-Value Targets with Combined Bounty of Rs 3.6 Crore Neutralized; Operation Hailed as Milestone Toward Naxal-Free Chhattisgarh

Security forces achieved a landmark victory on October 3, 2025, after eliminating two senior Maoist commanders in the remote Abujhmarh hills of Narayanpur district, a notorious Naxal stronghold. The slain leaders, identified as Basav Raju and Lalita, commanded significant influence across Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Odisha, with individual bounties of Rs 1.8 crore each, totaling Rs 3.6 crore.

The operation, involving joint teams of CRPF, state police, and DRG, was triggered by intelligence inputs on a Maoist conclave and unfolded over 48 hours in dense terrain, resulting in the recovery of sophisticated arms, explosives, and incriminating documents. Officials described it as a “game-changer,” disrupting the CPI (Maoist)’s Western Regional Bureau and weakening their supply lines.

This comes on the heels of a historic surrender of 103 Naxals in Bijapur on October 2, marking the largest such event in the state’s history, with rewards totaling over Rs 1 crore. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai lauded the forces, reiterating the government’s 2026 deadline for a Naxal-free Chhattisgarh, while emphasizing rehabilitation packages under the new Naxal Rehabilitation Policy.

Human rights groups have called for investigations into potential civilian impacts, but the operation has boosted public confidence in the state’s security apparatus, especially as festive preparations intensify across urban centers like Raipur and Durg.
