Total Seizures Reach 3,859 Quintals Worth ₹1.19 Crore This Season; Collectors Warn of Criminal Cases Against Repeat Offenders

Acting on strict directives from Collector Jitendra Yadav, authorities in Rajnandgaon district have intensified their crackdown on illegal paddy trade during the Kharif Marketing Year 2025–26. Strong action is being taken against middlemen and unauthorized buyers, with officials warning that repeated violations may soon attract criminal cases.
During a joint operation conducted today by the Revenue, Food, and Mandi Departments, a total of 207 quintals (518 bags) of illegal paddy worth ₹6,41,700 were seized across five cases. With this, cumulative seizures for the ongoing marketing year have reached 3,859 quintals (9,648 bags) of illegal paddy valued at ₹1,19,62,900, along with two vehicles confiscated.

According to official data, today’s action included:
- Rajnandgaon subdivision: 1 case involving 30 quintals (75 bags) worth ₹93,000
- Dongargarh subdivision: 4 cases involving 177 quintals (443 bags) worth ₹5,48,700
Cumulative figures for the season by subdivisions are:
- Rajnandgaon subdivision: 20 cases; 2,399 quintals (5,998 bags) worth ₹74,36,900
- Dongargarh subdivision: 11 cases; 1,174 quintals (2,935 bags) worth ₹36,39,400, and 2 vehicles
- Dongargaon subdivision: 4 cases; 286 quintals (715 bags) worth ₹8,86,600
The district administration has launched a sustained campaign to eliminate unauthorized paddy transactions. A total of 1,500 mandi license holders—both small and large—have been placed under close watch. Sub-divisional officers, tehsildars, and officials from the Food and Mandi departments have been instructed to carry out inspections and confiscate illegally stored paddy.

To curb inter-state illegal paddy inflow, the district has set up three inter-state check-posts at Bortalab, Patekohra, and Kalloobanjari. Teams from the Mandi Department, Home Guards, Forest Department, and Revenue Department have been deployed round-the-clock in three shifts to ensure strict monitoring.
