Residents of several villages under Tumdibod–Kohka police outpost have raised serious concerns over the unchecked sale of illegal liquor and flourishing gambling activities. Despite repeated complaints, villagers allege that the illicit trade continues openly in highway dhabas and surrounding villages including Peteshri, Bodela, Indamara, Sivanikhurd, Kopedih, and Alikhuta.
According to locals, popular highway eateries such as Yara Da Dhaba, Satvinder Dhaba, Bihari Dhaba, Sher-e-Punjab Dhaba, and Malai Dabri have become hotspots for the sale and consumption of liquor, directly violating prohibition norms.
The situation has already led to social unrest. Villagers recalled a recent tragic incident in Peteshri village, where a youth was murdered during the Mahakal Yatra following a drunken altercation. “While one side of society is witnessing the positive results of liquor prohibition, the other side is being pushed towards destruction due to rampant illegal trade,” said a local resident.

Community members further highlighted that youth and even children are falling prey to addiction, leading to domestic disputes and a deteriorating social environment. Despite repeated complaints to Tumdibod outpost officials, no effective crackdown has taken place.
Villagers have now urged the state administration, police authorities, and local representatives to take immediate and strict action to close down the illegal liquor and gambling dens in the region.
