An alleged case of long-standing illegal encroachment on government grazing land by a major industrial unit has come to light in Tedesara industrial area of Rajnandgaon district. A preliminary investigation conducted at the tehsil level has confirmed encroachment on nearly 10 acres of government land, following a complaint lodged by Joratari village sarpanch Ramakant Sahu.

According to the complaint, Crest Steel & Power Limited has allegedly been occupying government-designated grazing land for nearly two decades, dumping industrial waste material on it. The land in question is located near the Tedesara industrial zone and falls under village Joratari.

The sarpanch alleged that government land recorded under Khasra numbers 1222, 1215 and 1216 was being used for dumping waste material, while illegal occupation was also reported on Khasra numbers 1211 and 1290. Taking the matter seriously, the Tehsildar ordered a field inspection and deputed the patwari for on-site verification.

The patwari’s inspection report has confirmed illegal encroachment on approximately 10 acres of government land. The report has been submitted to the Tehsildar, and further administrative proceedings are now underway based on its findings.

Villagers have stated that the land is officially recorded as grazing land and has traditionally been used by local livestock owners. They allege that industrial activity on this land has not only resulted in encroachment on public property but has also adversely affected the traditional rights and livelihoods of villagers. Panchayat representatives and residents have demanded strict action against the company as per law.

It has also been pointed out locally that the industrial unit was earlier associated with plants operating under the names Krishna Steel and Topworth Steel, which were reportedly part of the same group before internal disputes led to the closure of one unit. However, officials clarified that the relevance of this background to the land encroachment case will be determined only after detailed administrative scrutiny.

Based on the investigation report, the tehsil administration is preparing to initiate further action. Officials indicated that if illegal occupation of government land is established, the company will be served notices and eviction proceedings along with other legal measures will be undertaken in accordance with the law.
