Rajnandgaon Police have cracked a series of burglary cases in the Basantpur police station area, exposing an interstate theft syndicate linked to Hyderabad’s notorious “Shetty Gang.” Three habitual offenders were arrested from Hyderabad, and stolen gold and silver jewellery worth approximately ₹5 lakh was recovered from their possession.
Breakthrough Under Police Leadership
The case was solved under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma, with operational guidance from Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore, City Superintendent of Police Vaishali Jain, and supervision of अलेक्जेंडर किरो.
A joint team of the Cyber Cell and Basantpur Police Station carried out the investigation and arrest operation.

Series of Thefts Trigger Investigation
The investigation began after a complaint was lodged on March 14, 2026, by a woman residing in Jeevan-A Colony. She reported that 3–4 unidentified intruders broke into her house late at night, threatened her, and escaped with gold and silver jewellery stored in an almirah.
Around the same period, incidents of motorcycle theft in Laxminagar and another house burglary were also reported, raising concerns about an organized criminal network operating in the district.
CCTV Analysis Led Police to Hyderabad
Considering the seriousness of the incidents, police examined footage from over 100 CCTV cameras across the city. Technical analysis helped trace the suspects’ movement through Durg-Bhilai, Raipur, and Bilaspur before finally locating them in Hyderabad.
A special police team was dispatched to Hyderabad, where after two days of surveillance and coordination, officers successfully surrounded and arrested the three accused.
Accused Confess to Multiple Burglaries
During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing theft at three locations in a single night in Rajnandgaon’s Jeevan Awas Colony. After the crime, they allegedly travelled by train to Bilaspur, where they committed additional burglaries in Sarkanda and Mopka areas before fleeing back to Hyderabad.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
- Shashi Kumar (23)
- Setti Vijay (45)
- Setti Surya (31)
All are reportedly associated with the Hyderabad-based Shetty Gang.
Jewellery and Weapon Seized
Police recovered several stolen items including:
- Silver utensils
- Toe rings (Bichhiya)
- Bracelets and bangles
- Ear tops and armlets
- Gold tops and pendants
A knife allegedly used during the crime was also seized.
Cases have been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. The arrested individuals have been produced before the court and sent to judicial custody, while two absconding gang members remain under active search.

Role of Investigation Team
Cyber Cell in-charge Inspector Vinay Pammar and Basantpur Police Station in-charge Inspector Eman Sahu, along with the investigation team, played a crucial role in tracking and apprehending the accused.
Police Advisory to Citizens
Rajnandgaon Police have advised residents to inform neighbours and the nearest police station if they plan to leave their homes unattended for extended periods, enabling increased surveillance and prevention of theft incidents.
