Under the directives of the Government of India, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection has re-launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 3.0. The primary objective of the scheme is to provide clean cooking fuel to economically weaker families—especially women from rural and low-income households—by freeing them from the health hazards caused by traditional smoke-based cooking methods.
Under this renewed phase of the scheme, all eligible families who do not currently possess an LPG connection will be provided one free of cost. To avail the benefits, applicants are required to submit an application along with a self-declaration form, a photocopy of their ration card, Aadhaar cards of all family members (on separate pages), and a photocopy of the bank account of the female head of the household. However, families that already have an LPG connection in the name of any member will not be considered eligible under this scheme.

For effective implementation, cluster-wise lists will be prepared at the Gram Panchayat level, and applications will be collected through village secretaries. After verification of the documents, eligible beneficiaries will need to undergo e-KYC at their nearest LPG agency, following which the LPG cylinder will be issued.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 3.0 is viewed as a significant step toward women’s empowerment. Apart from reducing health risks caused by smoke, the scheme supports clean energy usage and contributes to environmental protection. The initiative is expected to bring comfort, dignity, and better living conditions to millions of households across the region.
