Indian archery scripted history at the 23rd Asian Archery Championships, returning home with a magnificent haul of 10 medals – 6 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze – surpassing every previous performance at this continental pinnacle. The moment the entire nation had been waiting for finally arrived when 23-year-old Pravin Jadhav clinched the Recurve Men’s Individual Gold, defeating Korea’s Lee Woo-seok 6-4 in a nerve-wracking final.

This was India’s first Recurve Men’s title at the Asian Championships since the legendary Limba Ram won it in 2007 – a drought of 18 long years that ended in thunderous fashion. The gold rush didn’t stop there. The Compound team continued its absolute domination by defending all three titles they held coming into the championship:Compound Men’s Team: Atanu Das, Abhishek Verma, and Rajat Chauhan crushed Chinese Taipei 238-230. Compound Women’s Team: Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami, and Parneet Kaur retained their crown with a near-perfect score.

Compound Mixed Team: Jyothi and Abhishek Verma successfully defended their title for the third consecutive edition. Adding to the euphoria, young sensation Aditi Swami became the first Indian woman to win the Compound Women’s Individual Asian Championship title, beating Korea’s Oh Yoohyun in straight sets. The 19-year-old prodigy, who won World Championship gold last year, proved her rise is no flash in the pan.

Speaking after the medal ceremony, Pravin Jadhav said, “This gold is for every Indian archer who believed we could beat the Koreans on the big stage. Eighteen years is a long wait, but today we showed the world that Indian recurve archery is back.”

Archery Association of India president Arjun Munda hailed the performance as a “turning point”. “Six gold medals and topping the medal tally in Compound while breaking the recurve jinx – this is the strongest statement Indian archery has ever made in Asia,” he declared. With this historic performance, India finished second in the overall medal table behind Korea, but comfortably ahead of traditional powerhouses like Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan.

As the team returns home to a hero’s welcome, millions of young archers across the country have a new dream to chase. The arrows fired in Bangkok have not just won medals – they have ignited a revolution in Indian archery that promises to dominate global stages for years to come.India’s bullseye moment is here.
