Substandard Food Products Attract ₹68,000 Fine; Samples Collected from Various Establishments Sent for Laboratory Testing

Acting on the directions of Collector Jitendra Yadav, the Food and Drug Administration has intensified inspections, sample collection and enforcement action at food establishments across the district ahead of the upcoming festive season.
The campaign aims to ensure that citizens receive pure, safe and quality food products while preventing adulteration. As part of the ongoing drive, teams are conducting surprise inspections of food establishments and collecting samples for laboratory examination.
Samples of Shiv Gold Chakki Atta from Harshita Traders, Sitar Pan Masala from Vishnu Kirana Stores, Kalkasa, Rice Bran Oil from MY Traders, Arjuni, Raj Bhog Chakki Atta from Jai Shakti Stores, Arjuni, Chana Dal from Shri Bajrang Kirana Stores, Khujji, and Moong Dal from Shiv Kumar Dewangan Kirana Stores, Khujji, were collected.
Samples were also taken from Nagwani Confectionery, Laxminarayan Sweets, Laxmi Kirana Dongargaon, Sahu Kirana Stores Chhuriya, Jai Bhole Kirana Stores Tappa Dongargaon, Olive Pizza Rajnandgaon, Tamanna Enterprises, Drishti Food and Dairy, Yadu Dairy Rajnandgaon, Namo Trading Imam Chowk Rajnandgaon, A-1 Dairy, Hotel Arena, Hotel Grand Vista, Moti Sweets Rajnandgaon, Om Chana Kirana, Bindal Mithas Dongargarh, Kashvi Enterprises Dongargarh and New Leela Hotel and Sweets, Mohara Road.
The collected samples include flour, pan masala, edible oils, pulses, sweets, tea leaves, pizza, biscuits, paneer, milk, cheese analogue, onion gravy, pasta, besan, samosa, bhajiya, chivda and other food products. The samples have been sent to the laboratory for testing.
Strict Monitoring of Food Entering the District
The Designated Officer, Food and Drug Administration, said Food Safety Officers have been instructed to maintain continuous and strict surveillance over food products entering the district through bus stands, railway stations, transport check-posts and other major routes and means of transportation.
Special teams have been activated to check the quality of large consignments of khoya (mawa), paneer, ghee and other dairy products arriving from other states and districts. Suspicious consignments are being sampled immediately to ensure that substandard or adulterated products do not reach markets or consumers.
Special monitoring is also being carried out for boondi laddus, which are commonly served during Independence Day celebrations.
₹68,000 Fine Imposed in Substandard Food Cases
The department said punitive action has been taken in cases where food products were found to be substandard.
A fine of ₹30,000 was imposed on Jain Dairy after paneer was found to be substandard. Hariom Dairy was fined ₹18,000 for substandard paneer.
A fine of ₹10,000 was imposed after Hind Pani Pouch was found to be substandard, while another ₹10,000 fine was imposed for substandard Lemon Salt Soft Drink.
The total penalty imposed in these cases amounts to ₹68,000.
Earlier Samples Also Found Substandard and Unsafe
Laboratory reports of samples collected earlier have also identified several substandard products.
Kunda from Shyam City Hotel, Dongargarh; paneer from Annapurna Dairy, Rajnandgaon; Sitar Pan Masala from Vishnu Kirana Stores, Kalkasa; Choco Gems from Basantilal Agrawal, Dongargarh; and Tulsi Water Pouch from Pankaj Trading Company, Rajnandgaon were found to be substandard.
Meanwhile, Sitar Pan Masala from Ganesh Kirana Stores, Rajnandgaon, was found to be unsafe.
All these cases are currently under investigation and will be completed shortly before being presented before the competent court.
The Food and Drug Administration said the special inspection campaign will continue across the district during the festive season with the objective of protecting citizens’ health.
Consumers Advised to Remain Alert
The Food and Drug Administration has appealed to citizens and consumers to remain cautious while purchasing food products.
Consumers have been advised to avoid open and suspicious food items and insist on obtaining proper bills and receipts.

While purchasing packaged food, milk, khoya, paneer, sweets and edible oils, consumers should check the quality, manufacturing date, expiry/use-by date and FSSAI licence number.
During the festive season, citizens have also been advised to avoid sweets with excessively bright colours, khoya and paneer being sold at unusually low prices, and food products being sold in the open.
Consumers can report suspected sale of adulterated, substandard or stale food products at any shop, hotel or dairy to the Food and Drug Administration helpline at 9340597097 or the CM Helpline at 1076.
