Farmers in Rajnandgaon district have been given another opportunity to insure their Rabi crops under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), as the insurance portal has been reopened after nine days. Eligible farmers can avail crop insurance benefits until January 15, 2026.

According to official data, so far 28,661 farmers in the district have insured wheat, gram, mustard and linseed crops cultivated over an area of 38,258 hectares. Compared to last year, insurance coverage for about 1,283 hectares is still pending. During the Rabi season 2024–25, crops grown over 39,541 hectares were insured in the district. Due to unseasonal rainfall and other adverse conditions, insurance companies had paid compensation amounting to ₹33 crore to 20,380 farmers last year.

Deputy Director of Agriculture Shri Tikam Singh Thakur said that the Agriculture Department is continuously encouraging farmers through field officers to bring their crops under insurance coverage. Cooperative societies are also motivating farmers at paddy procurement centres to insure their crops.

He explained that farmers who have not sold paddy or have not updated their Kharif short-term crop loans through banks are facing practical difficulties in getting insured as loanee farmers. In such cases, farmers who could not update their loans can insure their crops as non-loanee farmers through Lok Seva Kendras.

For the current season, the premium rates per hectare have been fixed at ₹690 for irrigated wheat, ₹405 for unirrigated wheat, ₹645 for gram, ₹375 for mustard (rai/sarson) and ₹315 for linseed. The Deputy Director appealed to farmers not to wait for the last date and to approach bank branches or Lok Seva Kendras at the earliest to insure their crops and secure financial protection against losses caused by hailstorms, cyclones, unseasonal rainfall and other natural calamities.
