A high-drama scene unfolded in Gujarat’s Chotila taluka, Surendranagar, when a criminal, cornered during a police raid, climbed onto the ledge of a fifth-floor building and threatened to jump, shouting, “Mai Mar Hi Jata Hu!” The incident, captured on video and reported by NDTV, occurred during a targeted operation by the Gujarat State Monitoring Cell (SMC) on July 4, 2025, aimed at curbing illegal activities in the region.

The raid, conducted in the early hours, was part of a larger crackdown on illicit liquor trafficking. The SMC team, acting on a tip-off, stormed a suspected hideout and seized foreign liquor worth Rs 1.19 crore. As the operation intensified, one suspect, realizing the police were closing in, made a desperate bid to evade capture by climbing onto the fifth-floor ledge of the building. In a moment of heightened tension, he was heard yelling, “Mai Mar Hi Jata Hu” (“I’ll just die!”), threatening to leap to his death as officers attempted to negotiate with him.

The dramatic standoff, which lasted several minutes, drew a crowd of onlookers and was recorded by local media, with visuals showing the suspect precariously perched on the edge while police personnel urged him to surrender. The situation underscored the high stakes of such operations and the lengths to which suspects may go to avoid arrest. Eventually, the police managed to de-escalate the situation, safely apprehending the individual without any casualties.

This raid is part of Gujarat’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal liquor smuggling, a persistent issue in the state, which enforces strict prohibition laws. The seized consignment, valued at over a crore, marks a significant blow to the illicit trade network operating in the region. Authorities have not disclosed the suspect’s identity, but sources indicate that further investigations are underway to uncover the supply chain and key players involved in the racket.

The incident has sparked discussions on social media, with posts on X highlighting the intensity of the operation and the suspect’s dramatic reaction. It serves as a stark reminder of the challenges law enforcement faces in tackling organized crime and the unpredictable nature of such high-pressure encounters. As Gujarat continues its fight against illegal activities, this episode stands out as a testament to the bravery and quick thinking of the SMC team in averting a potential tragedy.
