More Than 50 CCTV Cameras and Technical Analysis Help Police Trace Suspects; Property Worth ₹10.50 Lakh Recovered

Police have solved a daylight theft case reported in Ashirwad Colony, Kaurinbhatha, under Basantpur police station limits, with the arrest of two accused. A joint team of Basantpur Police and the Cyber Cell recovered property worth around ₹10.50 lakh, including nearly 100 grams of gold, around 500 grams of silver ornaments and ₹1.50 lakh in cash from their possession.
According to police, on September 11, 2026, Ashirwad Colony resident Kul Prakash Walde had gone to duty. Between approximately 12:30 pm and 2:45 pm, an unidentified thief allegedly broke the lock of his house, entered the premises and broke open the locker of a cupboard kept in a room. Gold and silver ornaments along with ₹1.50 lakh in cash were stolen. The total value of the stolen property was reported to be around ₹4.15 lakh.
A case was registered at Basantpur Police Station under Crime No. 420/2026.
Clues Traced Through More Than 50 CCTV Cameras
Considering the seriousness of the incident, a special team was constituted under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma (IPS), with guidance from Additional Superintendent of Police Keerti Rathore and supervision by City Superintendent of Police Vaishali Jain (IPS) and Cyber/Crime DSP Satyaprakash Tiwari.
Under the leadership of Basantpur Police Station in-charge Inspector Kaushlesh Dewangan and Cyber Cell/Police Station in-charge Vinay Pammar, the team inspected the crime scene and examined footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras installed across the city.
Through technical analysis and coordination with the jail administration, police obtained important clues regarding habitual thief Vicky Verma.
Accused Had Met in Jail
According to police, the main accused, Vicky Verma, was lodged in Central Jail Jagdalpur during 2025-26 in connection with a theft case. During his incarceration, he came into contact with Rahiman, who was also lodged in jail in a theft case.
Police said that after being released from jail, the two allegedly planned the theft together.
The investigation revealed that Rahiman was living on rent on the first floor of the complainant’s house in Ashirwad Colony. He was allegedly aware that gold and silver ornaments were kept in the house and that the premises remained vacant during the afternoon.
According to police, based on this information, Rahiman called Vicky Verma to Rajnandgaon, following which the two allegedly carried out the theft.
Stolen Gold Melted Into a Lump
Police said that after the theft, some of the gold ornaments were sold to a jeweller in Kurukshetra, Haryana, while the remaining gold was melted down into a lump weighing approximately 100 grams.
Police also received information that the stolen silver ornaments and ₹50,000 were in Rahiman’s possession.

Police recovered nearly 100 grams of gold in the form of a lump, ₹1 lakh in cash and the screwdriver allegedly used in the crime from accused Vicky Verma.
From Rahiman, police recovered the stolen silver ornaments and ₹50,000 in cash.
Both accused were arrested on September 20, 2026, and are being produced before the court. Police are continuing efforts to recover the remaining stolen property and are also investigating the possible involvement of other persons and the role of the jeweller in the case.
Theft Cases Registered in Several Districts
According to police, several theft cases are registered against accused Vicky Verma in different districts, including Bastar, Mahasamund, Durg, Kabirdham, Dhamtari and Rajnandgaon.
The second accused, Rahiman, is also reported to have a theft case registered against him in Bastar district.
