A grand welcome was accorded to the Shaheedi Yatra commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru, upon its arrival in Rajnandgaon on Friday. The 10-day-long procession, organized by the Sikh community of Chhattisgarh, is dedicated to the life and sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji—revered as “Hind Ki Chadar” for laying down his life in defense of religious freedom and human dignity.

The yatra, accompanied by devotional hymns and a Nagar-Kirtan, entered the city amidst a spiritual atmosphere. At Manav Mandir Chowk, the City District Congress Committee, led by its president Kulbir Singh Chhabra, extended an affectionate welcome to the procession. The arrival was marked with vibrant garlanding, floral tributes, and a dazzling display of fireworks that lit up the evening sky.

Speaking on the occasion, City Congress president Kulbir Singh Chhabra recalled the Guru’s supreme sacrifice. He emphasized that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji gave his life 350 years ago to protect the sacred symbols of Hindu dharma—tilak and janeu—and stood as a shield against religious persecution. “It is because of this unparalleled act of courage and sacrifice that he is rightfully honored as Hind Ki Chadar,” Chhabra said, adding that his legacy continues to inspire generations across communities.
