Host state teams deliver strong performances, move confidently towards pre-quarterfinals in Rajnandgaon

The 69th National School Games Championship, being organised under the aegis of the School Games Federation of India with the support of the Department of School Education, has turned into a vibrant celebration of sporting excellence, discipline and youthful talent. Scheduled from January 11 to 15, 2026, the championship is being hosted at Digvijay Stadium and six indoor and outdoor basketball courts across Rajnandgaon.
A total of 36 teams representing 27 states and nine educational institutions are participating in the under-17 boys’ and girls’ categories. On the second day of competition, host state Chhattisgarh delivered an impressive performance, with both boys’ and girls’ teams registering crucial victories to strengthen their position in the race for the pre-quarterfinals.
The strong showing by the host teams has emerged as a major highlight of the tournament, reflecting not only competitive preparedness but also the growing sporting culture of the state. Their performance has drawn praise from officials, coaches and spectators alike.
In the girls’ category, teams from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat and Delhi, along with educational institutions such as CBSE (DPS Rajnandgaon), Kendriya Vidyalaya and CISCE, displayed disciplined and skilful basketball to secure wins in their respective matches. Chhattisgarh’s girls’ team registered a notable victory against West Bengal, underlining their ability to compete strongly despite the pressure of hosting the national event.

The boys’ category witnessed equally thrilling contests. Chhattisgarh defeated strong opponents such as Manipur and Kendriya Vidyalaya, showcasing an aggressive strategy combined with balanced team play. Meanwhile, teams from Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Delhi also recorded convincing victories, making the competition increasingly intense.
Across all venues, players demonstrated impressive technical skills, physical fitness and true sportsmanship. The enthusiastic presence of spectators at Digvijay Stadium and other courts highlighted Rajnandgaon’s emergence as a capable and energetic host city for major sporting events.
Beyond medals and match results, the championship is being viewed as a crucial platform for identifying and nurturing future national and international players. The ongoing competition continues to inspire young athletes while reinforcing the importance of sports in holistic student development.
