The Chhattisgarh Labour Welfare Board on Thursday distributed benefits worth more than ₹2.5 crore under various welfare schemes, including the Scholarship Scheme, Bicycle Assistance Scheme and Sports Promotion Scheme, to thousands of workers’ families engaged in the organised sector across the state.

The distribution programme was held at the official residence of the Speaker, where former Chief Minister and current Speaker of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, Dr Raman Singh, handed over assistance to beneficiaries. Addressing the gathering, Labour Welfare Board Chairman Yogesh Dutt Mishra highlighted the role of the Board in safeguarding the interests of workers. He said the Board is currently implementing 14 welfare schemes across Chhattisgarh with the objective of providing social security and timely assistance to labourers in all circumstances. “The Labour Welfare Board stands shoulder to shoulder with workers to support them and their families,” Mishra said.

Speaker Dr Raman Singh, while distributing scholarships and other benefits, said that the foundation for labour welfare schemes—covering both organised and unorganised sectors—was laid during his tenure as Chief Minister. He noted that these initiatives have steadily expanded over the years, benefiting lakhs of workers across the state. “These schemes have transformed the lives of labour families, and in the coming years, their scope will be further widened,” he said.

Dr Singh also welcomed the Board’s initiative to provide meals at subsidised rates for workers, calling it a significant step towards ensuring basic welfare and dignity. He remarked that the Labour Welfare Board has undertaken “revolutionary work” by designing schemes that support workers from birth to death. Despite this progress, he added, the relevance and necessity of welfare initiatives in the labour sector remain as important as ever.

The programme began with a warm welcome to the dignitaries by Board Chairman Yogesh Dutt Mishra and Welfare Commissioner Ajitesh Pandey. Board members Mohan Anty, Ramkrishna Dheewar, Ravi Shankar Singh, Radheshyam Gupta and Kamal Boss were also present. Workers from various industries across the state attended the event and expressed appreciation for the continued support extended by the Board.

The Labour Welfare Board’s initiatives are aimed at promoting education, health, nutrition, and overall social security for workers and their families, reinforcing the state’s commitment to inclusive development and labour welfare.
