CBSE WSO boys and Maharashtra girls settle for silver in thrilling U-17 basketball finals

The 69th National School Games 2026, organised by the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and hosted by the School Education Department, concluded the Under-17 basketball finals with memorable performances by host Chhattisgarh and CBSE teams.
In the boys’ U-17 basketball final, host Chhattisgarh edged past CBSE WSO in a nail-biting contest, winning 85–82 to claim the gold medal. CBSE WSO finished as runners-up, securing the silver medal. In the third-place playoff, Delhi defeated Punjab in a one-sided match by 75–39 to win the bronze medal.

Earlier, in the semi-finals played on Wednesday night, Chhattisgarh defeated Delhi 47–41 in the first semi-final, while CBSE WSO overcame Punjab 88–72 in the second semi-final to book their places in the title clash.
In the girls’ U-17 basketball final, CBSE (Delhi Public School, Rajnandgaon) delivered an impressive performance to defeat Maharashtra 92–83 in a closely fought match, securing the gold medal. Maharashtra had to settle for silver. In the bronze medal match, host Chhattisgarh girls defeated Delhi 44–33 to finish third.
The road to the girls’ final also witnessed competitive encounters. In the first semi-final, Maharashtra defeated Delhi 60–36, while CBSE outplayed Chhattisgarh 48–23 in the second semi-final to advance to the final.

The basketball matches were held at Digvijay Stadium and various basketball courts across Rajnandgaon. The finals and knockout matches drew considerable attention, with spectators witnessing intense competition, high skill levels and strong sportsmanship among young athletes from across the country.
The successful conduct of the basketball events further highlighted Chhattisgarh’s capabilities as a host state for national-level sporting competitions.
